A Pitched Roof and the Stars

A young woman balances on the apex of the roof of her house and touches the stars. Original painting.

Story: I thought the house was pretty much perfect. Well, except for the roof. Not that the roof leaked, mind you; it was in good repair. So was the entire house, in fact. I mean, you're talking freshly painted walls and ceilings, new floors, gorgeous bathroom, fully fitted kitchen. It was only that I'd had my heart set on a flat roof where I could lie down and look up at the sky. But I compromised. Obviously. At first the pitched roof was a challenge. It was a struggle getting up there. And I fell off more than a couple of times. But now I'm used to it, and I love it, most especially on a clear night. Yeah, it took me a while, but I figured out how to balance on the apex. And it's so worth the effort. You see, from the roof of this house, I can touch the stars.
