Where Once There Was Darkness

Original painting of a red bicycle leaning against a blossom tree.

Story: I pedal although my legs ache. It isn't easy to cycle here, for the ground is uneven. But it is no match for my determination – and my red bicycle never lets me down.

I may be sore, but it was worth it just to reach this place. I came to see this tree that stands in the middle of a clearing, alone but surrounded by woods on all sides. It is delicate and fragile in appearance, yet it has faced down whatever once happened here. This tree has dared to survive. Today its slim branches are decorated with blossoms, at once sweetly pretty and mightily defiant. I came here because I yearned to believe that there can be light in a place where once there was darkness. I will leave with a full heart, knowing that is right.
