The Discreet Stowaway

Painting of a fabulously dressed young woman sitting on two trunks, reading a book.

Story: Well, what could I do? I tell you, I had no choice. None whatsoever. You know, a girl has to get from A to B from time to time, and if one is caught out without quite enough money for a ticket and has to sneak on a train, one might as well make it the Orient Express. So I did what I always do when I find myself in a bit of a situation: I made myself as unobtrusive as possible, of course! I mean, with such fine-looking travelling companions as my fellow passengers, in this exquisite ensemble, I simply blend right in. And in any case, what sort of conductor would dare to question the presence of a young woman with two such impressive trunks? And to top it all off, I'm reading. Now, it would simply be rude to interrupt me only to force me to root around for a ticket that a person such as myself would obviously have in her possession – clearly a complete waste of time. So I shall see you anon in another city. And I'm sure no one's noticed me. No one at all.
